Obituary

Johnny was born in Robeson County to Johnnie M. Johnson and Mae Belle Cribb Johnson. He grew up in Red Springs, NC. Johnny started working for Milliken Industries in Red Springs at an early age. He began his career at Milliken sweeping floors and rose through the ranks to Department Manager. He then went to work for Springs Industries.

He also served in the Army National Guard for eight (8) years and was called up to active duty during the Korean Conflict where he served two (2) years overseas. He earned the marksman badge while in service and he was honorably discharged as a SGT E-5. He was very proud of his service.

Johnny is survived by his daughter, Wendy J. Kuzminski of Hillsborough, NC, his brother, Jimmy Johnson (Catherine “Cat”) of Laurinburg, NC, his sister, Mary Lee J. Rodriguez of Red Springs, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy H. Johnson, his son, John Gregory Johnson, his sister, Dorothy “Dot” Dean, his brothers Bobby Johnson and Archie Johnson, and his niece, Tammy Sager.

For most of his life, Johnny lived in Rowland, NC, and in the early 2000’s the family moved to Supply, NC. After losing his wife to cancer and son to kidney failure, Johnny started volunteering at the Brunswick Islands Baptist Church food pantry. He loved working there and helping people in need. He also enjoyed gardening and he would share his bounty with friends and neighbors.

There are no services at this time. In lieu of flowers we request donations to Brunswick Islands Baptist Church.
